About the Workshop

The workshop was held from September 28 to October 1 over Zoom. The aim of the workshop is to enable research scholars and faculty working in the field of Management (Social Sciences) to craft and develop high-quality manuscripts. The purpose of this workshop is to help participants develop manuscripts that can be taken forward for publication in high-quality journals. The workshop will include tips on how to write well, structure a paper in a clear fashion, and understand the logic, sequence, and clarity of the components of a paper.

Focus of the Workshop

In this workshop, we will look at research papers, and what goes into writing one. We will deconstruct a few papers and look at their components, with emphasis on the abstract, the introduction, and the conclusion. According to research, most journals look at the abstract, the introduction and the conclusion to get a sense of what your research is going to contribute to the available literature on the subject.

This workshop will focus on the following topics:


The workshop will be conducted in a practice-oriented manner where participants will be provided with exercises that will help them draft the key components of their papers. They will be taken through the process of revising and rewriting.

Participants are requested to kindly read the material provided prior to the workshop so that there is substantial value addition.

About the Workshop Coordinator

Prof. Jayashree Rammohan: Jayashree Rammohan did her Masters in Management Studies (MMS) from S P Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai. She has worked in the corporate sector as well as in academia. She was a professor of written business communication at NIRMA University, Ahmedabad, and CEPT University, Ahmedabad. She has been a freelance editor since 2000 and worked with academics from reputed institutes such as IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Indore, IIM Vizag, IIM Kashipur, XLRI, and MDI, among others. She has been associated with the IIMA Case Centre as an editor since 2011. She has also conducted corporate workshops in written communication, as well as soft skills workshops for post graduate students from various universities.

Session 1 (3.00 pm – 4.30 pm): What is good writing? How do you start writing? How to write a paragraph? Look at some common grammar errors and how to avoid them while writing.

Session 2 (4.45 pm – 6.00 pm): Why is writing a research paper different from other kinds of writing? What do journals look for when you submit a paper? Parts of a research paper – what goes into each section.


Session 3 (3.00 pm – 4.30 pm): Common mistakes made while writing a research paper

Session 4 (4.45 pm – 6.00 pm): Writing an abstract; deconstructing an abstract


Session 5 (3.00 pm – 4.30 pm): The Introduction – what should you look for?

Session 6 (4.45 pm – 6.00 pm): The Conclusion – the key ingredients of a good conclusion
