Present research workshop on
PSYCHOMETRICS AND SCALE DEVELOPMENT IN SOCIAL SCIENCES
Dates: April 4-8, 2022
About the Workshop
The workshop was held on April 4-8, 2022 via online medium (through Zoom). The workshop sessions happened from 9.30am to 1pm on the workshop dates.
Focus of the Workshop
Measurement is fundamental to social sciences research and application. However, measurement also represents one of the greatest obstacles that the social scientists face, both in terms of daily practice and in terms of the reputation of the discipline.
The purpose of this workshop was to introduce to the participants the central concepts of psychometrics theory and scale development for social sciences. The workshop takes a hands-on approach, covering the critical aspects of psychometric theory including scale construction, item generation, reliability testing, validity testing, and factor analysis. The seminar was structured around a framework of measurement principles and will be based on a combination of theoretical and practice-oriented sessions that will provide working knowledge of concepts using statistical software like SPSS and AMOS.
Watch Prof. Vishal Gupta talk about the workshop here: https://youtu.be/84VhuqAN-Qg
- Understand the process of designing a scale for measuring theoretical constructs in social sciences, the steps involved, and guidelines that must be followed at each step.
- A nuanced understanding of the conceptual foundations of instrument construction and development, including basic mathematical and statistical principles.
- Develop understanding of psychometric issues relevant to development of measures.
- Understand the basics of questionnaire (survey) development for social sciences.
- Understand the issues of reliability, validity and measurement error.
- Learn about factor analysis (exploratory and confirmatory), issues involved
- Be able to critically evaluate soundness of a test based on scientific criteria.
- Get hands-on training on statistical analysis packages SPSS and AMOS.
Who should attend?
This workshop is designed for researchers working in social sciences (OB, HRM, Marketing, Strategy, Communication, IS, Economics) who are interested in developing their own measures or are using established scales for measuring constructs in their research work. Researchers who are using surveys for their research work will benefit from this workshop.
Registrations for the workshop are now closed !!!!!
Last Date for Registration
Registration will close on April 1, 2022 or when the seats of the workshop are filled (whichever is earlier). The seats of the workshop are limited (80 in number). The registration will be purely on first-come-first-serve basis.
